Ubisoft Announces Splinter Cell Remake

Must read

Are you a fan of Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell series? The last time we saw a major title from the franchise was back in 2013, which is a pretty long time as far as game releases are concerned. If you were worried that Ubisoft had abandoned the franchise, you’ll be happy to hear that they haven’t.

In fact, the publisher has announced that they are working on remaking the game. According to the game’s producer, Matt West, “So, I think it kind of has to be a remake as opposed to a remaster. Although we’re still in the very earliest stages of development, what we’re trying to do is make sure the spirit of the early games remains intact, in all of the ways that gave early Splinter Cell its identity.”

He adds, “So, as we’re building it from the ground up, we’re going to update it visually, as well as some of the design elements to match player comfort and expectations, and we are going to keep it linear like the original games, not make it open world.”

The game will be developed by Ubisoft Toronto, which for those unfamiliar were the developers for Ubisoft’s Far Cry 6. The game will also be built using the company’s own Snowdrop engine that was also used in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Ubisoft’s upcoming Star Wars game. There is no word on when the game will be released, but as West notes it’s in the early stages of development so it could be a while before it will be playable.
