M-Sport targets more WRC entries at selected events in 2025

M-Sport is likely to expand its World Rally Championship entries at selected events this season after securing Gregoire Munster and Josh McErlean to full-time drives for 2025.

The Ford squad has once again opted for a youthful line-up this year after retaining the services of Munster following his first full-time campaign last year, while Irish rising star McErlean makes the leap to Rally1 from Rally2 machinery.

Last month the team confirmed the pair will contest a full-season behind the wheel of the Ford Puma Rally1, following the departure of Adrien Fourmaux to Hyundai.

“I’m happy with our line-up. It is going to be a challenge this year and we have to be very realistic as to what is achievable,” M-Sport team principal Richard Millener told Motorsport.com.

“The goal was to stay in the championship, that was the key thing which is harder than it has ever been before, and losing Adrien was obviously a massive blow but we just have to live with that. The goal was to find two drivers to allow us to continue.

“The goal was always to keep Gregoire in the car for a few seasons to give him a chance to develop, so having a second year with him is great but it will come with pressure as he will be seen as the number one, and with that comes expectation, but that is external, not internal.

“We want to see him continue from how he finished last year which was setting competitive times, and Josh has got the biggest challenge of everybody, so the approach of being very sensible will be key.

“I think having two youngsters gaining knowledge with no pressure can be a nice team environment and can help us go forward.”

While M-Sport has locked in two entries for 2025, it has run part-time entries at selected rounds in each of the last three seasons which the team is planning to continue. It is expected privateer Jourdan Serderidis will make further appearances.

When asked about fielding more cars, Millener added: “Our target is to field more than two cars on selected events.”

However, another candidate linked to any possible M-Sport expansion is Martins Sesks, who impressed during outings in Poland, Latvia and Chile for the team last year. The performances put Sesks firmly on M-Sport’s radar for 2025.

The Latvian’s leap to Rally1 last year was made possible thanks to support from his own sponsors and the WRC Promoter.

Speculation regarding Sesks’ future has increased this week after the driver released a video on social media revealing he is set to share some “super exciting news” next week.

Should M-Sport add entries to its roster this year, the first opportunity to increase its line-up would arrive at Rally Sweden next month.
